June 20, 2014. HCIL grad student Meethu Malu and her partner Hitesh Maidasani, from Jon Froehlich’s CMSC838F ‘Maker’ course, won the Instructables Grand Prize in the “Maker Family Contest” for their StarryNight project.

April 7, 2014. Slashdot article, “Apple: Dumb As a Patent Trolling Fox On iPhone Prior Art,” mentions Catherine Plaisant’s work on toggle widgets and features a video demo of her work, which was being considered at potential prior art in the Apple patent infringement case.

March 3, 2014. Jimmy Lin was awarded the University System of Maryland Board of Regents 2014 Faculty Award for Research, Scholarship, and Creative Activity for his early research on question answering and later applications to clinical domain at the National Library of Medicine.
