October 31st, 2016

This October, Ben Shneiderman and Catherine Plaisant were honored with two “Test of Time” Awards at the IEEE VIS2016 Conference in Baltimore, MD.

This award is given in recognition of work that has had an enduring impact on the field, evaluated in terms of citations, influence, uptake and overall effect on the visual analytics community.

The first award was granted for “A Visual Interface for Multivariate Temporal Data: Finding Patterns of Events across Multiple Histories”, a 2005 paper by Jerry Fails, Amy Karlson, Layla Shahamat, and Ben Shneiderman.  The second award honors “Strategies for evaluating information visualization tools: Multi-dimensional In-depth Long-term Case studies (MILCs),” a 2006 paper by Ben Shneiderman and Catherine Plaisant.

Congratulations, Ben and Catherine, for this well-deserved recognition of your long-standing contributions to the field!
